Intellectual Drumming

Cris: It is interesting because you have such an intellectual approach to drumming. Is it odd that you went into (a) music as a career and (b) the drums?

Ben Sesar (drummer for Brad Paisley): But there is an intellectualism to it. Liberty DeVitto is a great example. Just because he doesn't read music, doesn't mean he can't speak it. I wasn't lucky enough to just walk around and be great at everything. So it all starts with the question, “How do I do this?”
I've never had a teacher. I'm analytical because everything since I was a kid was, “Let's figure it out.”
