Social Media Is A Marathon

8/25/2016

The online world is littered with the halted activity of people who thought social media was a sprint.

In The Pocket

8/23/2016

"Playing in a band the way we do it, as a team deal, when you’re in the pocket, it’s the most exhilarating feeling in the world. And the song literally plays and sings itself. You’re singing along but you’re in in the pocket and it’s just carrying you with it. It’s like surfing a wave. It’s fantastic". - client Huey Lewis (Huey Lewis & The News)

All About Delivery

8/18/2016

"This stuff ain’t rocket science. It’s all about the delivery. It’s all about the simplicity, the phrasing. There’s a self-assuredness that comes with the stage and the music in general, along with a lot of energy." - Kim Wilson of clients the Fabulous Thunderbirds

Deliberate Practice

8/17/2016

"The way I teach involves a process called "deliberate practice.” That process of learning is all about breaking things down to the molecular level and really defining what is going on with individual grips, ways of setting up and striking the drum, feeling pulse, etc. When you break things down to that cellular level, that's where the really authentic change happens." - client Daniel Glass

Once The Music Hits You

"Once the music hits you, why hold back? If something feels so good, why hold back? Don't be shy about it. Just let your body move." - client Big Sam's Funky Nation

Why Grow Up?

8/15/2016

I still feel like I’m in my 20s. That’s just the way I roll. Some people say, “Grow up.” My answer is, “Why would I want to do that?” - client Taylor Dayne

Prepare. Enjoy. Analyze.

8/14/2016

Ben Sesar (drummer for Brad Paisley): My motto is “Prepare before. Enjoy during. Analyze after.” You can't get any of those steps confused or you're done.

Luckily I have a very good ability when I am playing to be in the moment and I am letting it go. Sometimes I'll take note of things. That's how I know I've got to improve stuff. And of course we all have days where we just can't get out of our head.

But when I sit down to play, I'm looking to feel something. I'm looking to forget everything and go only on feeling. Like when I was a kid. I didn't know, conceptually, anything when I was playing as a kid. I went only on feeling.
But all of the deep level that I try to take, that is either the preparation before or the analyzing after.

Cris: You just like it lurking in your subconscious.

Ben: Yeah, that's the whole point. Because it is about music. It's not about technique.
