Dave Wilson of Chatham County Line: When you're singing in harmony, you really want to hear those voices mix in the air before you put them into technology or microphones. You don't want to just sing and have it coming back. And just trying to figure out that harmony singing together and singing together for the 12 to 15 years we (used just one microphone) really cemented our harmony blend. And so we can still do that (on separate mics) now. But it is such a valuable thing. If you look at footage of Crosby, Stills and Nash overdubbing harmonies, they're singing on a single mic because that's how you get the blend.
